Ohio Commission Suspends Trainer Rodriguez for a Year

The Ohio State Racing Commission has suspended trainer Alejandro Murillo Rodriguez for one year and fined him $1,000 Aug. 8 after one of his trainees tested positive for nikethamide.

Two Eagles , the 6-year-old son of Morning Line , finished first in a June 21 claiming race at Thistledown and tested positive for the metabolite. Nikethamide is considered a class 1 drug. It is a respiratory stimulant.

Following the June 21 race, Two Eagles was claimed by Frank Lacca and is now trained by Odin Londono Jr.

According to the ruling posted on the Association of Racing Commissioners International website, Two Eagles is “ordered Unplaced, and the Horsemen’s Bookkeeper is ordered to make the necessary adjustments.” The penalty is “being referred to the Ohio State Racing Commission for further action.”

As of Aug. 9, Rodriguez has a career record of 109 wins and $1.7 million in earnings.
